Environmental At SCP, we recognise that our day-to-day activities can impact both positively and negatively upon the environment. Our goal is to minimise and where possible eradicate harmful effects wherever and whenever practicable. SCP is committed to the prevention of pollution and will strive to meet its goal through a policy of continuous review and improvement. We will manage and monitor the following to ensure that our goal of minimising harmful effects on the environment is met: • SCP will comply with any existing legislation regarding the environment. • SCP will monitor and reduce harmful emissions where practicable. • SCP will continue to carry out and promote recycling of all possible materials. • SCP will manage and monitor its usage of utilities. • SCP will strive to meet the requirements of BS EN ISO 14001. To achieve our goals we will: • Allocate management resources to ensure our environmental policy is maintained and kept up to date. • Motivate and where necessary train our employees to be aware of their activities and the effects they have on the environment. • Review our policies on a regular basis to accommodate new developments and legislation. • Monitor and report key indicators of our environmental performance regularly. Health and Safety At SCP, we recognise and accept our duty to protect the Health & Safety of our employees as well as anyone who may be affected by our operation. Our policy is to provide and maintain safe and healthy working conditions, work equipment, personal protective equipment and systems for all our employees. We believe in the active participation of every member of the company in the promotion, achievement and maintenance of the highest possible standards of accident prevention. Smoking SCP operates a no smoking policy in all buildings and whilst operating any company vehicles or machinery, both indoors and outdoors. Smoking may only be carried out in designated areas, and this policy will be further amended to suit new legislation being introduced on 1st July 2007 which states that all work places are to be non smoking areas. Fire Safety Upon joining SCP all new staff members are given training in the following areas: • Evacuation procedures. • Fire escape locations. • Fire fighting equipment. • Fire alarm equipment. • Emergency lighting. Following initial induction, refresher training and drills are ongoing. Accidents • All accidents or near misses are recorded in an incident report which allows our Health & Safety representatives to identify and investigate potential areas of concern. • If necessary incidents will be reported to the HSE in accordance with RIDDOR. • Accident reports are kept in excess of the period dictated by Statutory requirement. Risk Assessments A review of risk assessments is carried out regularly. In addition, legislative changes that bring about potential new risks are assessed as and when the changes occur. Wherever possible, identified risks are eliminated, reduced or controlled by the use of safe methods, training, maintenance of equipment or the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Social Accountability At SCP we strive to put our values into practice in everything we do and we aim to demonstrate that we live up to these ideals. Our social accountability policy recognises society's key stakeholders: employees, customers, suppliers, the wider community and the environment. We recognise that our approach to the society in which we reside influences how we: • Operate in our marketplace. • Treat our employees. • Support the communities in which we operate. • Manage our impact on the environment. Our policy states that we are committed, through its vision and values, to: • Practise a responsible approach to the environment as well as the local and wider community. • Adopt policies which promote the cost-effective and prudent use of natural resources. • Protect the public's interest in relation to environmental and social impacts and to help contribute to a better quality of life for everyone, now and for generations to come. • Work with our suppliers and distributors to promote ethical and social responsibility.
